The Center of Extramural and Distance Education

The Center of Extramural and Distance Education serves nearly 5,000 students and offers training in 25 fields of study, including technical, economic and humanitarian specialties.

Extramural education is a form of studying that combines classroom sessions at the University with an independent student's work at home.

Distance learning is a form of studying with a help of computer and telecommunication technologies which provides interactive communication of lecturers and students at various levels of learning and independent work with information network materials.

The Center of Extramural and Distance Education is the oldest educational institution at Sumy State University. Before 1966, the Center was the only one institution of the University. At that period, it had the name of General Technical Faculty. In 1992, it was reorganized into the Extramural and Evening Training Faculty. And only starting from 2009, it has got the name of the Center of Extramural and Distance Education.

Beginning from 2008, Sumy State University has been introducing distance learning, which is the newest form of study. Distance learning allows students to have 24-hours access to all the educational materials as well as to teachers' and trainers' support.

Nowadays, the work of the Center corresponds to all the requirements of modern education. Hundreds of distance courses are provided in different directions of studies. Hundreds of exercisers and interactive presentations, video materials and virtual simulators as well as thousands of tests are worked out to ensure effective learning. A specialized online-studio is working.

The study process runs at Sumy State University, at Institutes in Shostka and Konotop as well. The Center includes more than 35 territorial centers of distance communication.
