The Faculty was founded March 15th, 2000 as the Faculty of Humanities. On February 10th, 2011 it was renamed as the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications. Its foundation has become a significant move in establishing of Sumy State University as a university of a classical type. Now there are about 800 students at the Faculty.

SumDU Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications offers services in preparation for International Language Testing (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, TFI, PTE etc.).
The departments of the Faculty cooperate with such famous institutions as the Ukrainian Society of the English Language Researchers, a branch office of European Studios, TESOL Ukraine (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), IATEFL–Ukraine (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language).
The Faculty has efficient contacts with the American House, the British Council and Embassy of the People's Republic of China to Ukraine.
