Chemical and Technological College of Shostka Institute is structural unit of Sumy State University without right of a legal entity. It was founded by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 441 from 08.06.2001 and according to No. 647 from 19.09.2001.

The education institution was established as a college based at Shostka gunpowder factory in 1920. Since its foundation it had been the basic structural unit of the basic enterprise, and then it was a part of the Ministry of Defense Industry of the former USSR. It was granted the status of college in 1995 by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from 14.11.1995 according to No. 312, and in 1999, according to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 18.02.2000 according to No. 356 the college was named after Ivan Kozhedub, The Hero of the Soviet Union on three occasions, Chief Marshal of Aviation, who studied at our institution from 1936 to 1940.

The college’s material resources consist of two academic buildings, dormitory and educational manufactories. There are equipped classrooms and laboratories. There are 122 work places equipped with computers (three classes for computer-based training), and audiences with multimedia equipment. There are dormitory, a dining room for 250 people, first aid station, sports complex, stadium and sports facilities, student club and the assembly hall for 500 people. Students are provided with dormitory for 100% .

Currently 402 students are enrolled at the college. The study process is provided by qualified academic staff (total – 78, full-time employees – 45). 50% of lecturers have higher qualifying category. ‘Excellence in Education of Ukraine’ badge was awarded to 10 employees, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine diplomas were awarded to 19 employees. Candidate (PhD) of Economic Sciences, Prof. Akulenko V.L. and lecturer of higher qualification category Havrylova O.S. were awarded the title ‘Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine’ by the Order of the President of Ukraine.

Among the famous representatives of the college are Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Engineering of RSFSR, who was twice awarded with the title ‘Hero of Socialist Labor’, Director of large defense plants Ya.F. Savchenko, the directors of plants in Kemerove and Leningrad A.I. Konchak A.P. Portkov, commander of the aviation division I.H. Mykhaylenko, Manager of Trust ‘Sumhimbud’ (supervised construction projects in Egypt) A.V. Ferubko, Chief architect of Moscow D.M. Chechulin and others. Among the glorious alumni of different years of graduation are the Hero of the Soviet Union A.Y. Bykhovskyi, the Hero of the Soviet Union M.H. Lyakh, the USSR State Prize Laureate M.V. Fastovets, Doctor of Technical Sciences A.A. Zheltonozhko, Doctor of Technical Sciences H.S. Skubachevskyi, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Honored Economist of the Ukrainian SSR V.P. Moskalenko, Honored inventor of Ukrainian SSR L.S. Pakhova and others.

The college consists of Electromechanical Department (Head of the Department: P.S. Pata) and Technological Department (Head of the Department: L.B. Baranova).

There are 12 cyclic commissions: Ukrainian Studies and Foreign Languages; Social Sciences and Humanities; General Chemical Disciplines; Economic Disciplines; Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies; Electrical Engineering; Natural and Mathematical Sciences; General Technology Disciplines; Engineering; Chemical Technology and Engineering; Physical Education; Civil Defense Disciplines; group leaders.

Laboratories: computer systems and networks; metal cutting machine tools with numerical program control; electrical engineering and electronic measurements; exploitation of technical means; automated electrical drive and electric machines; analytical chemistry; inorganic chemistry; physical chemistry; special chemical; technical analysis and production quality control; materials science; processes and devices; industry equipment; maintenance and repair.

Manufactories: mechanical, metalworking and electrical-installation.

The college provides 2 modes of study (full-time and part-time).
It offers educational qualification of Junior Specialist.

Achievements

The college has three ensembles: dance ensemble ‘Svitanok’ (Dawn) (Heads of the ensemble are O.V. Demych and T.I. Demych); vocal ensemble ‘Suziria’ (Constellation) (Head of the ensemble is I.Yu. Sokolova); student theater of pop miniatures ‘Spetsmeh’ (Head of the theater is H.F. Filon). All three ensembles were awarded the title of ‘National ensemble’. In 2015 Chemical and Technological College of Shostka Institute of Sumy State University took the third place in All-Ukrainian review contest for the best state of physical education and sport in higher educational institutions of Ukraine for 2013-2014 academic year (by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine order for Ukraine according to No. 36-K from 18 March 2015).
