On September 11, SSU journalism students took part in the online meeting on information warfare with the British political scientist, journalist, and TV producer Peter Pomerantsev. He delivered lectures not only for Sumy students but to large number of students from Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Cherkasy, and Chernivtsi.

The lecture dealt with the concept of information warfare, Russian and Chinese models of information warfare, confrontation, and how, in fact, the Information Age becomes Disinformation Age.

The event was organized by Independent Association of Broadcasters (Kiev). This event was timed to the opening of the festival "KINOMEDIA".

According to Peter Pomerantsev, the information can be used as a weapon in order to doubt, to offend, and to confuse. The Russian Federation is not the only country in the world that uses the theory of “three military styles”: fusion of psychological, legal and media wars.

The similar strategy for the expansion of the boundaries in the South China Sea is also used by China. So the answer to insolent Russian propaganda should be asymmetric only. That is, the government, parliament, domestic media should pay more attention to reforms, fighting corruption and solving urgent problems. To stop the dirty flow of information we need to gain country "immunity", in other words - media literacy must be systematic.

During the online lecture SSU students and teachers from the Department of Journalism and Philology had an opportunity to ask their questions.
