Sumy is the regional center of Ukraine possessing significant economic, scientific and cultural potential. It is a modern city, enchanted by the slight touch of antiquity. The unique ways, in which the glorious historical past and the present are tightly intertwined within the city, are absolutely bewitching.

Now 269 000 citizens live in the regional center.

Sumy is often called the city of students due to the fact that almost 44,000 students study at the four city universities and two branches of Kyiv universities. Sumy students take part in various spheres of public life actively and passionately, whilst our universities are among the best Ukrainian higher education institutions.

Sumy city is growing further and further. New housing buildings and industrial, social and cultural facilities appear here and there. Such industries as machine building, metalworking, chemical and petrochemical industry, food industry, construction materials manufacturing, forest and woodworking industry are the most developed ones. Among the products produced by Sumy enterprises one can find equipment for oil & gas sector and chemical industry, pumps, machines and means for automation, fertilizers, paint and varnish production, building materials, furniture etc. It goes without saying that the production of PJSC “Sumy Machine-Building Science and Production Association” is highly requested in the countries of CIS, Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

There’s no shade of doubt that Sumy is gradually turning into the center of a powerful sport movement. The city has the opportunity to hold sport competitions of various kinds in accordance with the world best standards. Designed according to the UEFA requirements Yuvileinyi Football Stadium matches the international football standards at any level. Barsa Children's Football Center is known not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. Leading children's coaches from Spain and Italy show a great interest in prospects of cooperation with Sumy young football players.

The representatives of Sumy Biathlon School show excellent results at the Olympics, World and European championships. The graduates of Sumy State University, including Vita and Valentyna Semerenko, Serhii Sedniev glorify Sumy with their victories.

Sumy is one of the cultural centers of Ukraine. The city holds steadfast traditions and great cultural heritage connected to some outstanding names. Two theaters, museums, art galleries and philharmonic society make a great contribution to the bright cultural city life, and International Music Festivals have brought almost worldwide fame to Sumy.
