On March 15th 2000 Sumy State University founded the faculty that united several departments of humanitarian direction.

At the beginning it was called “Humanitarian” and specialized on preparation of translators, lawyers and journalists. In 2011 following the separation of the major “Law”, the faculty got the new name – “Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications”.

With time new departments and majors started to appear. Now the Faculty has 6 departments: Department of Germanic Philology; Department of Journalism and Philology; Foreign Languages Department; Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens; Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies; Department of Philosophy.

Nowadays about 800 students are obtaining professional preparation in the following majors: Philology (Germanic Languages and Literatures), Journalism, Advertisement and Public relations, Social Work, Psychology, Management off Socio-Cultural Activity.

Academic staff contains 120 persons, among which are 9 Doctors of Sciences and more than 60 PhDs.

Students and postgraduates of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications participate in scientific and educational conferences, international and All-Ukrainian training projects, Olympiads, creative contests and sport competitions.
