Olena Bilotserkivska, BA student

Receiving University: University of Almeria (Spain)

Duration of mobility: 21.01.2021-29.05.2021

Type of mobility: student mobility for studying

Olena Bilotserkivska says:

I think when I went to study in another country for six months, I saw both cultural-educational process differences and the education system difference as a whole. I would like to emphasize the last-mentioned point. First, the scale of the institution was impressive. My first thought was "like in the movies!". It sounds funny. However, the university is reminiscent of the same campuses we see in good Hollywood movies: a huge area, a stadium for playing American football, just recreation areas for students outside and inside, and the waterfront nearby the campus. Such an atmosphere just charges with energy.

As for the training itself, the first quarter, due to the pandemic, was online. And despite this, the load here is higher, compared to SSU, for example. The system itself in Spanish universities is based on the student's free choice of disciplines in the specialty in which he/she is studying. So, in a sense, there is the freedom to form your own schedule, although sometimes it is very difficult to do so without overlapping courses.

I was also very impressed by the teaching approach. Drawing parallels with Ukraine, I can say that the distance between a student and a teacher in Spain is significantly shorter. Imagine addressing a professor simply by name! - without regalia or surname. Discussions in lectures are also encouraged, which, by the way, sometimes has a significant weight in the formation of the final grade.

Vladyslav Shapoval, BA student

Receiving University: University of Almeria (Spain)

Duration of mobility: 4.02.2020 - 16.06.2020

Type of mobility: student mobility for studying

Vladyslav Shapoval says:

I enjoyed a lot my exchange semester in Spain! This country was one where I had wanted to try to live, and I’m very satisfied that I have accomplished this goal. The cultural differences and traditions are noticeable but at the same time, it was fascinating to explore them, which are different from region to region, as well as the Andalucía region and my host city - Almeria. Studying at the University of Almeria was full of practical and memorable experiences. I have chosen to study classes I wanted. Professors were happy to assist with anything and conduct incredible lessons. For instance, my English instructor prepared creative activities during her class like building a marshmallow pyramid or creating a story based on emojis. The ESN organization gave a bunch of opportunities too. There were a lot of trips and events but due to the quarantine, they were canceled. In the end, I have got the possibility to travel and discord beautiful planes in Spain such as Malaga, Granada, and others. Furthermore, during the Erasmus, I met a lot of people from various countries and some of them still remind my friends. I believe I also have grown up a lot and become more mature. The Erasmus time is so full of adventures and personal growth. I definitely recommend to anyone to go for Erasmus!

Type of mobility: student mobility for studying

Sofiia Basanets says:

It was a great opportunity to live abroad and taste the foreign way of life. I was on quarantine after the only month of being there. But I lived in the multinational house, where I had the chance to practice language and expand my knowledge about other nationalities and even make friends with them. I wish I traveled across the country, but the virus canceled all the plans.

Here are the impressions of Olha about her experience as an Erasmus+ student:

"Greetings! My name is Olha. I am a student of Sumy State University. I am currently studying at the University of Almeria (Spain) within the Erasmus+ program. I always follow the rule "While you are a student, you have to try everything", so I'm here. I chose the Erasmus + program because it is quite popular at the university, and a lot of my friends who were abroad recommended it. This year, 800 students from all over the world and continents came to study at the University of Almeria. It is a great chance to find new friends from across the globe and get 800 Instagram followers. The program allows us to live in another country for 1 semester, to study culture and language, to receive a scholarship, which is enough for accommodation, travel, delicious food. By the way, there are many international discounts for Erasmus+ students. At the university you can choose the disciplines you like, one lesson lasts 2 hours. The studying process is exciting and up-to-date, and in practical classes, we carry out exciting tasks. I think it's an excellent experience for my future. Do you ask what is required to receive the scholarship? The answer is: motivation, good command of English and good grades, this is all you need. I am sure that studying abroad is worth it."
