Stanislav Ilin says:

Hello everyone! My name is Stas and I am an intern within the Erasmus+ programme.

I am a participant of the program that struck me from the very beginning with its description. For this internship the students had to meet the following requirements: to be master students, to work with C++, Python, Matlab processing languages to develop software for modeling physical processes of superconductivity, as well as English communication skills. It sounded very cool and although I was not a master student, I just decided to try it, because it was free of charge.

There were no particular difficulties with the documents application. I already had a CV and a motivation letter was prepared, and therefore I was not worried about this creative part of the documents. I had to run around with the university’s internal documents and visa, but eventually everything was done. In addition, I am grateful to the team of International Affairs Office, the Dean’s Office and the coordinator of the programme, they all helped me, as well as the Head of the Department, who met my request for taking the exams on academic disciplines in advance or remotely. My visa was arranged without any problems and quickly, the main thing was to be sure of the correct package of documents and not hesitate to clear up the questions in the visa center.

Another nice bonus is that the internship takes place in France, in the Southern Alps. Chambery is a small, calm city with no traffic jams. The university itself and the campus are striking in their scale. And of course, I was impressed by a modern laboratory for studying of superconducting structures in helium temperatures. The language of communication among our research group was English. The university also offers free French courses.

The scholarship is enough for me to live a full life - to pay for accommodation, meals, public transport, etc. There is also compensation for flight to France. In addition, you can travel, go to the gym, visit cultural places (cinemas, museums) – all these are available thanks to the scholarship. As a separate bonus you are offered a dorm room, because not all internships offers you housing.

Therefore, if you like physics, especially if you know electronics, and have a talent for programming, then you should definitely think about this internship, because the ideal candidate for this program is a theoretical physicist-programmer and this non-trivial combination is very appreciated here! Although if you are a programmer only, you will also have something to do here.

The visit to the University was very productive: the valuable experience was received, Sumy State University was presented on the international level, new contacts for further cooperation were established, which can be useful not only for the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, but for SumDU as well (Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, Academic and Research Institute of Law). A lot of meetings took place in different institutes, faculties and laboratories in the following cities: Chambery, Le Bourget, Annecy and Jacob. The host institution showed interest and openness for cooperation.
