 Main Goals of the Project are: 

  • to carry out an audit of existing bachelor and master programs in journalism (20 programs in 10 OWS of Ukraine) to identify disadvantages and formulate action plans to eliminate them
  • organization pieces of training for teams concerning educational programs (OPs) on the subject of harmonization of qualifications frameworks and European standards and recommendations
  • studying the experience of European journalism programs (2 practical visits) for further use as a base for reforming their own programs
  • organization pieces of training on expert evaluation of educational programs on European accreditation technologies
  • expert evaluation of new/upgraded programs through expert visits to each IDA partner
  • one-year implementation of the programs and assessment of the quality of training organization within the project implementation period
  • development of national standards (recommendations) for bachelor and master's programs in journalism
  • creation and implementation of online media literacy courses for target groups
  • to ensure the maximum involvement of social partners in project objectives.
  • implementation of measures to ensure the sustainability of project results.

Specific Objectives are:

  • to audit (desk review) all current curriculum (20 degrees), with gap analyses and action plans;
  • to train curriculum teams in the alignment of programmes and QA with EQF standards;
  • to use European models of Journalism education to inform curriculum reform;
  • to train academic and professional staff in principles and processes of peer review;
  • to conduct peer review (including 10 site visits) of all new/revised programmes;
  • to deliver and evaluate the first year of all new/revised BA and MA programmes;
  • to produce National Guideline Statements for BA and MA Journalism education;
  • to maximize public stakeholder engagement and participation in the work of the project;
  • to deliver and evaluate Outreach Media-Literacy Courses for target groups;
  • to maximize the sustainability of the work and outputs of the project.

Project structure:

Work package 1 Preparatory

  • signing grant agreements with partners;
  • formation of the Project Management Board;
  • formation (at the level of each university) the group of developers of the initial plans;
  • preparation and holding of the opening meetings and the conferences.

Work package 2 Audit of curricula and action plans for their improvement

  • audit of two educational programs (bachelor's and magistracy's) according to the developed forms of documents;
  • development and conducting a survey of students who used these programs the year before, statistical and qualitative analysis of its results;
  • the actual assessment of educational programs: the creation of expert panels (with the involvement of Ukrainian and European specialists) and related documentation for their work, conducting training for experts, realizing the evaluation of educational programs.

Work package 3 Building a European Curriculum: Principles and Practices

  • development of practical tools for building a curriculum according to European standards (based on the results of the EU-funded project ALIGN);
  • organization of a conference devoted to the development of modern training courses and student-centered learning;
  • conducting in each of the partner universities 2 internal pieces of training on the use of European tools for staff at all levels involved in the implementation of educational programs in journalism (under the direction of a designated European curator).

Work package 4 Models of curricula: European models for journalism

  • implementation of 2 practical visits to European HEIs, preparation by the Ukrainian university of a report on benchmarking.

Work package 5 New / Upgraded Educational Programs, Evaluation, and National Standards

  • development of documentation and preparation of a report on self-assessment of new/upgraded educational programs;
  • evaluation of programs by expert panels, expert reports on each university;
  • approval of new/upgraded programs and implementation from autumn in 2019;
  • assessment of the quality of the implementation of educational programs, conducting a survey of students of the first years of study, respectively, statistical and qualitative assessment of the results;
  • development of national standards (recommendations) for bachelor's and master's programs in journalism.

Work package 6 University Online Media Literacy Courses for the Community

  • formation of a group on the development of online courses from representatives of European and Ukrainian institutions;
  • making consultations with key target groups;
  • making starting group meeting (online);
  • development of a strategy and operational plan for the implementation of online courses on media literacy;
  • definition of software and technical requirements and specifications, relevant equipment;
  • development and introduction of courses;
  • conducting surveys and feedback from listeners;
  • meeting the group (online) to evaluate the results, organizer;
  • preparation of a report indicating measures for the sustainability of the use of developed courses.

Work package 7 Ensuring the quality of project implementation

  • internal quality control of the project implementation.

Work package 8 Distribution of the results of the project

  • implementing Door Opening Day for a renewed educational program;
  • creating a webpage on the official websites of the universities;
  • creation of a data collection from external stakeholders on project developments.

Work package 9 Ensuring sustainability of project results

  • creation joint programs and programs of double diploma;
  • creation of a professional association of journalists of Ukraine;
  • creation of a network of EU-Ukraine journalists;
  • holding the final project conference.

Work package 10 Project Management

  • financial management of the project;
  • internal management and administration of the work of the working group;
  • participation in the activities of the Project Management Board and other governing bodies.
